I really admire you for talking openly about your schizophrenia. It takes bravery to stand up and let the world see who you really are–mental illness or not. And even more so, of course, when part of who you are is a person with a stigmatized illness. I think the things you write about, on this blog and in your articles, help reduce that stigma and build understanding.

Thank you! It would be great if my writing was reducing the stigma associated with schizophrenia. That would be fantastic!

I tried so hard to keep secrets about my mom, myself, and my daughter. It is such a relief to be able to speak about it now. Sometimes it is really scary, but I am empowered by the voices of others, like you, who are willing to speak out. We are on this journey together.

Reblogged this on my spanglish familia and commented:
I’ve only discovered this mental health blogger like 20 minutes ago and she has this post on “coming out” as someone who has schizophrenia. I’m contemplating my own coming out in real life and in the blogosphere. Do you want to know who La Sabrosona is? I don’t have a career to screw up, but it’s difficult putting oneself out there. What do you think?
