I have tears in my eyes as I type this. John Nash, one of the heroes of schizophrenia, has died in a car accident. The movie, A Beautiful Mind, was the only movie I have seen that showed that people with schizophrenia can be, and sometimes are, brilliant. More importantly John Nash was recognized with a Nobel Prize, one of the highest honors we have. He was such a great example of someone battling schizophrenia and still managing to be productive, have relationships, and lead a “normal life.”
The movie is only inspired by him, the book goes into more detail. I hope in death, as in life, he will bring more awareness to the truth about schizophrenia. I hope more people will give up the stereotypes and stigma.
Good-bye, John Nash, the world was a better place for having you in it.
Thank you so much for sharing this.

Aww, I just read the article. His wife was killed, too. If the movie was at all true to real life, she was pretty heroic, too.

I read the book and was amazed at how different his story was from that which was depicted by Hollywood. He was far more courageous than the movie showed as he was dealing with so much more. He is a hero. I hope he gets the proper tribute of one.
