This is the type of work I do when I am psychotic. The photographs are not very good but they show you some of the details of the originals. I spend a great deal of time creating when I am suffering from psychosis.
Thank you for sharing these. Do you sketch/draw during better times? These made me remember a period in my own life whenI was deeply depressed and possibly vacillating between that and mania. I painted bizarre images, had WAY out there thoughts.
I have many paintings/drawings that I did during that time. I don’t draw or paint on a regular basis. I always do creative things when I have an episode of psychosis.
Wonderful sketches! When I was psychotic, I was doing a lot of cross stitch. I finally had to stop cross stitching because of my eyes and picked up detail drawing. I enjoy that a lot!
I believe that tapping into our creative self, (which the brilliant scientist have discovered is from our RIGHT mind, or oops, brain…) is not only healthy, but a requirement of all individuals in their own individual way just to stay in balance and in harmony with one’s complete self.
I know when I was in college studying business as a single mom, I shoved my right brain so far down, I think it ruptured and brought about the rising of my psychosis. For when I was psychotic, I couldn’t hear my left, logical, rational brain at all….he was totally gone on vacation…
Anyways, keep your work…I once sold a painting that I wish I’d never sold. I didn’t get any color copies of it made either before I sold it. It was of a unicorn in white…spent hours on it…
Then they sold it at a NAMI auction where I’d get half the sales and the other half went to NAMI to help support their mental health charity; however, some prick got to see the art first before the auction began and he picked my unicorn for just $30 and they let him buy it early. Still ticks me off and goes to show that even the ones under the guise of “raising mental health awareness” don’t seem to mind taking advantage of our talents as we sit locked away in an institution.
Sorry about that. This is your blog, not mine….anyways, I didn’t know you had a creative streak. I am happy to see it! ๐ Take care-LaVancia
I didn’t know you are an artist too Rebecca! Those are cool. And yes Celtic art has a lot of detail, that’s why I like drawing it so much!! I love the knotwork. The Book of Kells is interesting to me.The artwork in it is fantastic!

What is detail drawing?

That is drawing where there is a LOT of detail in the drawing. (shadows, fur, ect., it almost looks realistic).

It is really cool. I wish I were really good at it. If I were really good at it, it would look like a b&w photograph.

I need to start doing it again. I haven’t drawn in several years. I really enjoyed doing it – it was very therapeutic.
